항아리 used to be synonymous with home in Korea. Without 항아리, what would the occupants of the house eat? The clay jars were used to ferment soybean paste, soy sauce, kimchi, gochujang - everything a Korean household needs. While the refrigerator has largely replaced the use of 항아리, I love seeing homes in Korea that still have 항아리 sitting outside being warmed by the sun.
