Artist Soyoung L Kim reimagines the cards of hwatu, a Korean card game with a deck of 48 flower cards, 4 cards representing each month of the year with an accompanying flower. Each month’s offering will be a reimagined card representing that month.

The artist has created the Hwatu Club in memory of her Halmoni and her friends who liked to gather around a game of hwatu. She believes it gave them a sense of camaraderie and moments of escape from a world where they felt increasingly useless.

Each month, you’ll receive a postcard sized print for the month and a letter from the artist sharing her inspiration behind the artwork and a thing or two about the game of hwatu. The artwork will revolve around the characters peopling her imagination, their lore and their involvement in a story Soyoung has been working on for many years.

You can purchase a postcard each month, or purchase an annual subscription.

Monthly purchases will open on the 1st of the month and close on the 10th day of the month. Prints will be delivered during the third week of the month.
